Music

Christian Messier's music is approached with the eye of the visual arts, that is to say, it seeks to question and highlight the different musical modes and especially, the sound qualities. Indeed, Christian Messier's pieces are generally rich in sound textures, often putting aside rhythms and melodies in favor of haptic sensations.

The most recent pieces are mainly produced using synthesizers and effects mazes, but other practices such as sampling, working with software, no input mixing board, or the use of acoustic objects are part of the range of possibilities exploited in this musical work. The influences are multiple: The Residents, Merzbow, Arvo Pärt, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Suuns, Alessandro Cortini, Tim Hecker, Vangelis, Alfred Schnittke, Pan Sonic, Prurien, Kenji Kawai, etc. This happy mix results in a singular music marked by dark and intense atmospheres that could recall, at the limit, the experience of sleep paralysis.
