Symphony in Van Dyck Brown
Artist Christian Messier draws inspiration from synesthesia, a neurological phenomenon that connects the senses in unusual ways, to create diptychs that combine painting and music. Each diptych in his series entitled "Symphonie en brun Van Dyck" pairs a painting with an original musical composition, creating bridges between the two artistic languages. Messier seeks to find equivalences between the language of painting and that of music.
In this series, each part of the diptych shares a common system that creates a tension between the characteristics that unite them and the properties that make them unique. Visitors are encouraged to listen to and look at the works to play the game of comparison. To do this, they simply need to bring headphones and scan the QR codes available on site using their smartphone to access the musical pieces that accompany the paintings.
